Remembering Witley Camp Project Rodborough Technology College Grounds Project
Heritage Lottery Funded project.
Workshops began in September 2008 in the new studio .
We began with 2 day visits to Witley common with 7 pupils each day . We were researching the history of the common, what it is used for now , what wildlife and fauna exists now on the common .
We then had a museum visit with artefacts from world war one and two as well as memoroies , postcards etc . We drew the artefacts and used them in alife drawing class.
We had many photos from the war as well as newspaper cuttings etc , these all gave us inspiration for the artworks and spaces that had been highlighted in previous consultation with the school council and staff members.
The area around the art block was highlighted and voted on by the school to revamp.
The heritage gave the pupils inspiration to draw and come up with designs for sculptures, mosaics and seating that were being planned to be made by the whole of year 8's.
The designs were made real , materials ordered and making workshops took place from October half term.
The project was completed for the end of June /July 2009
We hed our open studio's here and had a celebration event celebrating the opening of the new Comemorative garden.
